Learning

At Lake Illawarra South Public School, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. There is a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, providing the essential foundations students need to succeed both at school and in life. Our teachers use proven, evidence-based teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Why choose us for your child’s learning?

Strong foundations

We focus on building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, equipping students with the skills they need for lifelong learning. By developing these essential skills, our students confidently tackle new challenges and adapt to future opportunities.

High-quality education

We utilise explicit teaching strategies that clearly guide student learning while incorporating their interests to keep them engaged. Regular assessment and progress monitoring ensure that each student’s growth is tracked and supported effectively.

Inclusive and personalised learning

Our teachers adjust how they teach to suit your child’s unique needs, interests and learning pace. This ensures that every student feels confident, encouraged and fully supported throughout their learning journey.

Extension opportunities

Students who are ready for greater challenge are offered open-ended tasks, enrichment programs and opportunities designed to build on their strengths. These tailored experiences encourage advanced thinking and help students reach their full potential.

What students learn

Students engage in a broad and balanced range of subjects within the NSW curriculum. As they learn and grow, they develop essential skills, think creatively and gain the confidence and knowledge they need for life beyond school.

Religion and ethics

At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) classes. These classes are delivered by approved providers.

When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. We currently offer Protestant and Non-Scripture options. Students not attending SRE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just let us know in writing.
