Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life.
We get to know every learner as an individual. By working closely with families, teachers and support staff, we understand each student’s needs and provide the right help at the right time so every child can succeed.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments that suits each child’s needs.
How do we know when a student needs help?
We identify learning needs by:
- noticing changes in learning progress
- observing changes in behaviour or wellbeing
- listening to parents, carers and students
- conducting a detailed review of assessment results
- assessing specific learning measures, if required.
What can additional support look like?
Additional learning support may include:
- teachers and support staff working together with students and families
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- offering tailored enrichment programs to help high potential and gifted students
- targeted small group literacy and numeracy tuition
- regular check-ins to monitor, review and adjust supports.
What does this look like in the classroom?
In the classroom, teaching and learning adjustments may include:
- extra guidance, simpler content or a different focus during lessons
- opportunities to use hands-on resources
- accessible spaces
- assistive technology.
Assessment adjustments may include:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
Adjustments are planned collaboratively with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
Learning and support team
Our learning and support team helps make sure every student gets the help they need at the right time. The team works with families, teachers, Department of Education support staff and external services to:
